SanDisk Cruzer Micro

Best Buy has the 2G version for $29.99 (normal price is $45-50) and although I'm not sure when the sale ends, they usually run Sun-Sat so maybe as soon as tonight. This is a U3 compatible you need for USB SwitchBlade.

After seeing what Render did at Shmoocon with one of these, I need to get Swtichblade up and running. I have the ScanDisk Cruizer 2GB. Anybody got a Windows 2000 or XP system that I can borrow? Seems it does not work with Mac OS X, Ubuntu or Windows Vista.

Snag a copy of vmware. That should work with your cruiser.

Yep, that works.

It does say on the box that it won't work with Mac OS X. I ran it on three computers at home. It worked, but pwdump.exe was detected by Symantec. Once I replaced the pwdump.exe with the encrypted versions. it worked like a charm.

There's a box?? Oh, you mean for the usb stick. It works just fine with OS X, as a memory stick, and a useless cd. Now what would be cool is if someone figures out how to swap the U3 cd iso with a BackTrack iso.

I should have been more specific: the U3 portion will not work with OS X.

After confirming that the USB Switchblade worked on several home pc's (all Windows XP SP2), I wanted to know if it would work with Vista. So I took a little detour on today's shopping trip to the "big box store" where of course all the new computers are running Vista. I confirmed that the logged in account was administrator level (as they have been at both stores I've checked so far). The normally smooth "floating bubbles" screensaver was choppy for about 25 seconds as the hard drive activity light was going. After about 5 seconds of nothing, I returned to my shopping trip.

Disappointing when I got home to find that there was no .log file at all. So something in Vista is preventing it from working (perhaps autorun is disabled?).

This is probably why...

There are more complications due to Vista compatibility with the mobile apps themselves and the legacy issues that prevent launchpad upgrade for some U3 drives. For example, Sandisk U3 drives with firmware 2.1.5 and 2.2.1 support Vista while firmware 2.1.6, 2.1.7, 2.1.8, 2.2.0 do not support Vista. - Ian Chiu

The 10,000.00 USD/11,555.70 CAD Question

I currently have a 2GB non-u3 drive with ~1GB of portable applications

Do I?
A. convert the apps to U3 using one of the available packagers (lot of app to do)
B. Move the apps over and use them non-U3
C. make a switchblade and do B since the switchblade doesn't use the launchpad? (which one I see at least 3 versions although links are dead for some)

My head hurts from reading all of that.

I guess it depends on how much you need the U3 capability. Unless you need autorun I don't see a particular need for U3 other than for the Switchblade.
