It SCREAMS "MAKE ME INTO YOUR WARDRIVING TOY"

This mini pc would be all you need to make the ultimate wardriving box.

Notice it can hooked up to 12 volts DC.. no need for a power converter.
Also note the PCMCIA slot. (hint hint)

It looks like VIA finally started listening to the people over at forums like Mp3car.com

Car alternators can put out WAAAYYY more than 14v if something happens to the voltage regulator. Usually causes the battery to boil over, and fries the electronics in the rest of the car.

Then its easy, run some hot leads from the battery.. which when freshly charged is about 13.5-14 vdc. Even if the alternator is overpowering it the battery acts like a buffer. Or hook up a small in line voltage regulator. Either way this computer has merit.

Yep, I have seen one setup as a emergency welder for off road repairs!

Seems for that kind of money they could have at least tucked a little notebook cd/dvd rom in so you have an EASY means to load OSs and other software. I wonder if it can boot from USB?

Chip and boardmaker Via has partnered with an online retailer to create a car PC targeting in-car navigation and infotainment applications. The $300 "Voom PC" is supported by a media-oriented embedded Linux operating system, and is based on one of Via's newest, most powerful mini-ITX motherboards.

Here is the board info.

Interesting, but still rather pricey for my taste verses other options.
By the time you add hdd, memory, cd and display the price is more than a cheap notebook.

True, but you're paying for hideability. I've seen a few DIY carputers screwed to a board and stuffed under the seat. This is a bit more elegant.

Hey Now!! It was one of the first ones. I was one of the first people to put an MP3 player in a car. The second one was mounted in Plexi and the 3rd was mounted in a steel enclosure, which is now in my basement on a shelf.

I like screwed to a board and stuffed under the seat. This one works better for the auto industry folks.

Back in 94 I had a custom van I used for work that had a full blown office in it, 486 desktop with 14"crt, stand alone fax, printer and phone. The old analog cell phones had an easy means to use modems and were fast for their time. Don't know if mp3s even existed back then. But I sure liked that van, lots of room and very comfortable, but sucked on the gas mileage.
