Senao NMP-8602+ issues. help? advice?

Recently, I purchased a Senao NMP-8602+ miniPCI. I have tried using this card in a HP ze5470us running Fedora Core 6 with the atheros madwifi drivers. The latest madwifi. The drivers compile w/o errors. I am able to bring ath0 up (sometimes) but the system locks often. Most of the time it locks when I try to use the wireless. E.g. capture wireless traffic with airodump-ng or scan for wireless APs in the area. I check the system logs...here are the messages before it locks up.

May 28 08:59:29 steve-laptop pcscd: winscard.c:219:SCardConnect() Reader E-Gate 0 0 Not Found
May 28 08:59:29 steve-laptop last message repeated 3 times

also

May 28 09:57:37 steve-laptop kernel: wifi0: ath_reset: unable to reset hardware: '' (HAL status 0)
May 28 09:57:39 steve-laptop kernel: wifi0: rx FIFO overrun; resetting

I thought perhaps it was my configuration so I tried Backtrack 2 w/ madwifi drivers. The card was detected but the system hangs just like in FC6.

I tried another laptop I had handy to see if it was hardware compatibility issues. I just tried a L2005cu. The laptop will not boot as it detects an "unapproved" wireless card.

I thought i'd try another OS. I installed windows 2000 pro on the same HP ZE5470us. I downloaded the correct Atheros drivers for this card. When I do the install on the drivers (I tried 3 versions) the BSOD appears. The message displayed "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" with some memory addresses. I tried updating the BIOS as well to be sure.

So, I'm looking for some advice. Is this card perhaps bad? Incompatible? I am going to take the card to work tomorrow and try it in a few laptops. Have you heard of this incompatibility happening to anyone else?

Thanks in Advance!

That card has caused problems in Mikrotik also, the newer production cards are supposed to be fixed. Also make sure your pci buss can handle up to 1 amp. current draw.

The following three links are more appropriate for your problem than netstumbler.org is:

http://www.madwifi.org
http://fedoraproject.org
http://www.senao.com

You would have known that, if you had bothered to read all the threads in the Welcome Desk Section. In particular you should have read this thread.

If that is true, then that's probably it. The card is starved for current and isn't powering up fully, either that or it's a defective card, which the error message the OP posted clearly indicates had he googled for it.

Good luck on finding out if any miniPCI slot is capable of supplying 1amp, as that's not a spec that's commonly looked at.

I do plan on dual booting XP/FC6 or Ubuntu and running netstumbler in the windows side. I appreciate the input about the card and the power requirements. I tried an older laptop at work, but it didn't seem to detect the card at all. I opened up my work Dell D620 only to find a newer wireless card slot, so I was unable to do a swap to test. Thanks also for the links, most do not have a forum but I am skimming them for tips. Thanks all. Does anyone have netstumbler running with any Senao cards? NMP-8602+ perhaps?

May I suggest a forum search? Or would you like us to do that for you...

You should start here.

Cards that reportedly WORK with NetStumbler 0.4

Thanks guys. Yup, I've tried a million searches here. And took a look at the previously posted links. Thanks all. It must be an unpopular card. Like you said Dutch, I'll have to look on other sites. The 1 amp current draw or perhaps a defective card.
