Have some questions
1) with what power adapter it is your unit supplied 2) frimware version 3) did it crashes on heavy CPU load (200 connections with eDonkey, or 1-2 wireless clients with WPA-PSK) It is AMIT OEM Crap =SMC 7004BR + Ralink Radio. don't buy it and its OEM clones Examples : Sweex Wireless Broadband Router 11G ITEM NUMBER: LC000070 Sitecom Model: WL-114 E-Tech Wireless 54 Mbps ADSL/Cable router Model: WGRT04 Last edited by bubaka : 01-23-2005 at 11:23 AM. |

Level1 WBR-3406TX
Hello bubaka !!!
I've got one WBR-3406TX with 2 Computers connected to this router with USB2.0 dongles from Level1 WNC-0301USB! But first your questions. 1) I have the original power supply that comes with the router 12 V ~ 1000mA 12VA 2) Newest Firmware is R1.97c7 3) I test it under heavy network conditions. edonkey ownload/upload; FTP download (speed was limited to 7kb/s and max 2 connections/ip) and some Surfin at the same time. The router did have a fallback from 18Mbit/s to 5,5Mbit/s (connection between the router and my computer: the other computer was just surfin) but there was no problem with a crash. The problem is not the capability of the networkconnection! I've got simple heat problems with the router.... the solution was simple! I turned it upside down!!! The adhesive rubber feets ain't enough to cool it down... but if you put it sideways or install it on the wall the crashes schould disappear. The heat comes from the bottom of the router. Another point that i want to make is the simple truth, that with the newest Firmware of the router is not capable to handle the WPA-PSK encryption !!!!!!!! That was my biggest disappointment !!!! My first step was to connect the support. They told me that a new firmware release is coming on the way in three weeks (beginning with the 17. of January 2005) and it will enable WPA-PSK encryption. At the moment it only supports 64bit/128bit - WEP encryption! Ironically the WNC-0301USB is capable of WPA-PSK and all other encryptions. I found that on the USB-Dongle works a ZD1211-chip from Zydas in Taiwan (Is a spin off from Zyxel. (www.zydas.com.tw) But I'v got no clue which cpu works on the router and hope that the support is right... but the promised the encryption on the description. If they fail, I will return the router... So don't enable the WPA-PSK encryption it won't work now on the router... I hope the support is right because I'v got no trouble anymore with the router.... only a security problem. With best regards Thomas |

I've e-mailed with level one support for two weeks tring to solve the router hangs out and eventaually they said it should be replaced...
I tryed this upside down thing and I hop it'll work. also this WPA thing is anonying , I mean in the user guide you can clearly see that the html interface has an option to use WPA , I thought I did some thing wrong but they told me WPA will be available soon (yea right). It's so anonying they allow themselves to do this. It's like selling a car and say it has airbags and then after you crash and die BMW will tell your famely well the air bags should be available soon one thing is certain I wont buy any level one products again. Amit Crap
Hi Bubaka,
How did you find it out .... that the router is Amit Crap ??? I just found the Codename DDC6031 ... I also found an WPA-PSK encryption in the Binary from the firmware, but how can you see that it so bad designed that it won't work ... Maybe the encryption works only in chinese ... Code: Wu Bang Bang !!! ;-) n00 You're right ... it's a real mess... but if bubaka is right ... then AMit did the same... they prais a WS418- Router with WPA-encryption ... it is strange, no? fererokuss |

You think the CPU and the board that were known to crash as non-wireless router. would hold 54G Radio + WPA-PSK under load? Meantime they are also servicing non-existing Printserver.
Also a have 2 pc. of non-wirelerss versions - both were burned out after some months. What was pefectly done - branding, you can't put D firmware from other OEMer even in crash recovery mode. D firmware holds WPA-PSK connection for about 3 minutes. |
