Question Sma Jack addition

Hey guys new poster here
I am trying to add a SMA jack to my card inorder to use a can-tenna, I popped open the cover but didnt have any uf/.. jack so I was wondering if it would be possible to solder the jack onto the antenna itself?
info: Zonet zew1501 the fcc id is: pqp-wp233g

You probably should not solder any jack to the internal antenna. It would be better to use the test point. (Marked as TP1 on the silkscreen.)

Thanks for replying dude
any reason not to solder to the antenna? its a pretty crappy antenna, it cant get more than 5-10 meter of range.
If going the tp1 route, where should I attach the shielding to?
Thanks for the help dude.

Thorn is not a 'dude', I believe 'sir' or 'almighty' is appropriate.

Well for one reason is you may change the impedence and thus the SWR of the circuit. This could be bad and worst case damage the final stage of the transmitter, best case you get a crappy signal. The test point is the "safest" place as it was most likely used during the "bed of nails" testing of the card. Since your card doesn't have a U.Fl/hirose this Test point was probably used instead.

You're welcome.

You don't want to solder to the antenna, since you'll probably change the impedence of the circuit. Simply, that could cause major problems.

The shielding should attach to either of the square solder pads on the sides of TP1.

After thinking about it for a few moments, I realized from your previous post that you might be mislead by the silkscreen, and don't know where the actual Test Point is located.

The attached should help clarify where to possibly attached an antenna. Using a multimeter, verify that the pads are a ground, and you should be good.

You're welcome, but please don't call me "dude." It's not a term I much like. Besides, I'm old enough to be your father.

Google for some basic soldering HOWTOs. That should get you started. Use a low powered iron (>25W), and don't apply it for very long. That should be enough to get you started.

I'm going to get one of those big red Staple's buttons, and use it for banning. Then I can push it and say "That was easy."
