You can try uBid to find a cheap laptop for stumbling. I bought a Dell p233 96mb 3.2gig 12.1 TFT etc. for US $239. There are others for even less than that. One thing though... assume you will have to buy a new battery for them. Most will be dead or will have very short run times. If that is not a problem, you can find some good deals.

Minimal laptop for NS?
A related question: Any recommendations on the smallest/cheapest/slowest/oldest laptop that will reliably run Netstumbler? I use 'dstumbler' (under FreeBSD) on an ancient Toshiba 4700, these go for under $100 on eBay.
I've tried NetStumbler on a 5-year-old Compaq mini-laptop with 4Mb of RAM running Windows 95, but I'm stuck at a couple of errors related to MFC42.dll: http://www.netstumbler.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=302 In the case of 'dstumbler', I run the software and also do my customization (edit/compile/test) on an old 486DX2/50 laptop running FreeBSD. Neat to be able to fine-tune my netstumbling software by parking the car on the side of the road to compile and test changes to the source code. Appropriately, this T4700CT latop was originally deployed as a 'Network General' sniffer station... |

Has anyone had a chance to try one of the older Libretto's? They are pretty small and getting cheaper all of the time as the newest ones are being updated. I was hoping to find someone who had playtested this first before buying something that might or might not fit the needs. :-)
