Angry SMC EliteConnect problems

Hey everyone

A friend of mine recently purchased an SMC EliteConnect 2532W-B and we're havin' a ton of problems getting it to work correctly. We have an external antenna on it, and have installed and reinstalled drivers from both SMC and Demarctech, but this thing just isn't workin. We went to test it out and drove through a few industrial areas that we KNOW from previous experience have a ton of open AP's, and picked up only ONE AP for 1-2 seconds on NetStumbler. That's it.

Anyone know what the deal is with this card? I've read many posts saying it's high power and has exceptional range, so I have to guess that we have something setup wrong with it...

Anyone have any ideas? The laptop is running XP Pro. Thanks in advance!

I don't have any personal experience with that card but a search shows that others have made it work.

I have about 30 of these cards working on boats, but I did find that if you've had other drivers based on the Prism chipset they will hose up the functioning of the SMC card. You probably need to delete all the drivers and start over, make sure you get everything out of the system32 folder.
They are damn good cards with better receive than most. They are rebranded Zcomax cards and can be found for about $50 the Demarc card is the same card rebranded with an outrageous mark-up on price.

P.S. They make a CB3 burn through trees when you swap out the Senao card and put these in.

Smile Just flash it with Demarc firmware and use demarc wlan utility

I own one of these 200 mW SMC eliteconnects

and the SMC utility doesn't cooperate with XP

i did some googling and found out that they are just Zcom rebadged

So i flashed the firmware and used the demarc utility

http://www.demarctech.com/techsupport/downloads.html

look for the

RWZ 100mW/200mW Radio Firmware

v. 1.74

then use the prism WLAN utility,

I am using one in a Dell Latitude with XP Pro (With SP1)

The SMC utility works Great for me using the driver right out of the box

Comp USA has them for $39.99 right now (Not bad for a 200 mW Card)

By The Way: Anyone thinking of getting one, They use the MMCX connector (They have two MMCX jacks)

Comp USA also sells the 4 db SMC Ommi directional antenna with a MMCX Connector right in the box ($19.99)

I put my SMC antenna up between the rear view mirror and the windshield and got Very Good results !!

Later

That is an RP-MMCX on that card, NOT a regular MMCX.
