Starting out
I just bought a laptop and thought that I should try to do some Wardriving around my area (I am typically a wired network person)
The miniPCI Wireless adapter is simply very very weak so I am trying to buy a wiress PCMCIA card. A 802.11g compatibiity along with good Linux support are my two main concerns, then comes along the range, and how sensitive it is. External Antennas would also be nice. After nightless going around websits and comparison sites, I ended up with these. Right now I have my eye on SMC 2835W, EnGenius NL-3054, NL-3054CB Plus Aries2, or the NL-5354CB Plus Aries2. Sadly none of these have external connectors. I was good range and sensitivity the AP's around campus are very far apart, as well as for some war driving actions. So any ideas about which one of the above is good, or are there any better ones. (Any card to be called the Uber card?) |

to add a antenna to most any card
This pigtail works with all of our mini PCI cards or any other card that utilizes the U.FL / MHF / IPEX connector (nearly every miniPCI card currently on the market and most of the pcmcia cards ).
http://www.netgate.com/product_info....10b85563d915f2 to use this you will have to open up you card and hot glue this on it is not ment to be put on and taken off over 100 time before it brakes the pigtail or the card, the uf.l connector is used when making cards for testing them for radio out put. |
