Suggest a solution
So I just moved into an apartment above these people's garage. They have wifi and have permitted me to use it, but the signal is just too weak that far from their linksys befw11s4. I am using a Motorola wpci810g pci card in my desktop and I have a linksys wrt54g from my old house.
What I want to know is what is the best way to get a good connection. Should I try to use my router as an antenna to pick up the wifi signal and rout it to my machine? Is that even possible? Should I use an antenna on my pci card? If so what type? Running ethernet cable out to my apartment is out of the question. Is there another alternative I am overlooking? |

As I pointed out in my last post. You should contact Sveasoft. Go register and read through their forums.

same problem
I'm hoping to do the same thing.
There's a cafe next door to my house, and they don't mind if I use their connection all day long without even purchasing anything. They advertise free internet as an attraction and they use it themselves, but nobody else seems to. I'd love to access the connection from my room! I'd feel awkward telling them, even though they know I'm a completely broke and in-debt college student. Is there any way to use my wrt54g to receive and re-send the signal? Thanks! -FUR |

FUR,
You're skating on very thin ice. Using their service while you are IN their establishment is one thing. Accessing their service OUTSIDE of their shop is entirely another. If you feel awkward , then you know it's wrong. Take the high ground on this one , and ask if it's OK before stealing the signal. Sorry, but you won't get any help here otherwise. |

They don't mind if you use it yet you would feel awkwark telling them? Something smells of fish. |
