Hello Everyone,
The subject almost explains the problem I have and what D-Link's DWL-900AP+ has been able to do for me (with some modifications). I bought a Demark (www.demarctech.com) ReliaWAVE 500Mw AP transmitting from my site (commercial service). I got a client approximately 7Km from here and was able to receive the signal at the client site with a DWL-900AP+ inserted with a card from DI-614+ (D-Link Wireless Router). I changed the card just because I wanted to hook 2 antennas (Rx/Tx Direction). I can post pics and more details if anyone is interested. From the repeater, I was expecting another DWL-900AP+ operating in Client or Bridge mode to pick up the signal and serve the Wired LAN on site with internet connectivity. My problem is, I cant get it working in either mode (I am using firmware version 2.57 on all DWL-900AP+). I am sure the problem is not the repeater or the signal because I can receive perfect connectivity with my laptop and Orinoco Silver card. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I know the DWL-900AP+ os ok unless by extreamly bad luck, the 2 different units I tried are both faulty. I would really appriciate some help/advise. By the way, this setup is in Tanga, Tanzania and its impossible to get these things here. All my equipment has to be imported. |

Post some pictures, and a diagram it sounds interesting.
Having changed the card, the processor firmware is likely not working properly. The DLink firmware is known to be very tricky about what it will and won't repeat. I'll bet if you changed it back to the original card, it would work just fine. Of course, then you have the proplem with the antenna... One solution would be to make a discrete component repeater: AP----x-over----AP

Here is a rough sketch of whats going on. DLink AP didnt seem to notice the difference. I upgraded the firmware AFTER installing the card from the DLink wireless router. Probably they are just checking the mfg code from the MAC.
I will add some pics later. Riyaz |

OK Guys... I figured out whats going on...
Because I had replaced the card inside the DWL-900AP+ with a DI-614+ card, the whole system had changed. I installed the other AP with the DI-614+ card and set it up as a bridge... and it workes like a charm!!! no hassle AT ALL!! Simply run the site survey, find the AP, and connect to it and it works great!! The pic taken from the repeater site shows the direction of the primary AP (indicated with a +) and the "DOT" is the receive site in bridge mode. |

Congratulations, I went to Tanzania last year and understand why you say getting equipment in is dificult.
Unfortunatly I didn't go to Tanga. I think Dar was the furthest north I went, it was all south from there. I didn't read your location or anything but I thought your picture looked familiar. If you ever want anyone to go wardriving tanzania for you, I'm itching to go back ![]()
