Is the Tx/Rx rate only "Fully Automatic" in AdHoc?
I bought an AP because range and quality in AdHoc mode wasn't cutting it for my laptop. I expected more of an improvement than this! In AdHoc mode, I could not leave the room and remain connected. Also, no matter what channel I used my utility would only show 11mbps when my laptop was less than two feet from the other card.
Now with the Linksys broadband 54g router, I can only go into the next room (Not much of an improvement). With it, my card's utility shows the Tx/Rx rate ALWAYS stays at 11mbps even at the limits of it's usable range when it disconnects. Is the rate supposed to stay the same when in Infrastructure/Access Point mode? Is it supposed to only fallback when using AdHoc or when accessing older 2mbit lans and such? If not, could this be the source of my range problem? |
