UK stumblers - batch of cards on Ebay

Hello all,

I've been searching high and low for an Orinoco clone available in the UK and have found a batch that I reckon are compatible and going reasonably cheap.

Have a look at:

http://cgi6.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....sort=3&rows=50

Any advice as to whether these are definitely compatible or not, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Beermuppet

I seem to recall the entrasys roamabout does appear in the FAQ as being a compatible card. There are a few mentions of it in the forums too as I did a search when I was buying a card. I think the thread concerned an issue with drivers and was cleared up using either older or newer drivers. a search using enterasys should reveal all threads involving the card. they are a good price.

I found a lucent orinoco gold card on ebay which appears to work very well, I paid a premium price though as the bidding was hot but it was worth it to get a good compatible card.

On installation to my XP laptop XP found the drivers and set the card up without me having to load the drivers or client software from the cd that came with the card.

netstumbler appears to work fine and busily scans for activity. unfortunately havent been able to ride to the city yet and dont think there will be much activity in my scottish highland village, looking forward to riding around Inverness which is a larger urban environment.

here is a link for a lucent silver card on uk ebay

avoid the proxim variations with a picture of an odd looking man on them.

good luck

Starbucks and broadcast probes

Well My Lucent orinoco gold is scanning nicely , Havent had chance to test it in the field yet. Am planning to take it on my next trip to the city. I wondered if Starbucks reponds to broadcast probes from netstumbler, as there is a branch there that is equipped. I have read all the threads pertaining to orinoco cards running on NS 3.30 with XP
I have it set up like this in hope that it should work ok.

XP driver 7.43.0.9 (2001 agere systems)

XP to configure settings (as there is no orinoco client manager loaded to clash with it, but I can disable it too.
no orinoco client manager loaded

TCP/IP disabled so I dont connect to any stumbled APs

reconfigure card automatically disabled in NS

I am using win XP and have under the wireless connection properties, preffered networks
SSID any
No wep or authentication.

I am not sure what to put in advanced properties as station name? I thought this was my SSID at first but am leaning to thinking it is where you can put the name of your computer etc?

chanel is default
transmit rate auto select (high)
card power manage. off

this all seems ok to me apart from the station name which I cant decide after a few googles on the subject is my ssid or just a personal identifier for the machine.

so hopefully it should work and if starbucks does respond to broadcast probes I will at least have a know given to check against. I seem to recall they use a tmobile SSID?

thanks for any suggestions. the settings I arrived at above are based on threads found using the search function with subject lucent orinoco XP.

I also downloaded 0.3.23 in case of problems .

cheers....paul

BTW loved the thread on the SST-Page Ranking-1 mystery SSID. still reading a lot of the posts on my clie. all the detective work was better than an episode of Quincy. were any other companies using this system, saw mentions of coca cola and building contractors mentioned a few times.

I bought one of the very same card from E-bay he seems to have quite a few left. Brand new with drivers.

It worked straight out of the box and am well impressed. I live in central london and just turing it on I found 7 AP 5 of which were open.

All I need now is twig for the car.
