So one question, do I have to install the standard dell drivers first? Or can I just follow the directions exactly for a fresh install of the 1150 truemobile pcmcia card? Also, I've seen in other threads different files for PCMCIA and MINIPCI, is this the case here as well? Thanks! |

Don't even bother with the dell drivers. Do it as a fresh install.
The Files I have on my site were used a for a PCMCIA card. I am not sure if they will work for MINIPCI. The binary can allways be changed to match a MINIPCI if it doesnt work. Hasta P-K Quote:

anyway, i'd just like to point out that the f/w mod doesn't actually convert your dell card into an orinoco gold as you state on your site...because it already is an orinoco gold...with a different VID/PID programmed into it...all the updater does it take your card up to whatever f/w rev that's programmed into the particular f/w updater that you are using. btw, you can also downgrade your f/w using these updaters to for instance, 6.x f/w which is purported to work better w/ kismet. |

hevnsnt: Ouch that sucks man. Hope you get your site back up.
lincomatic: I don't believe that my site claimed that I was converting a dell card to a Orinoco gold. I am just using Orinoco gold firmware to update a dell card (which is in fact a repackaged Orinoco gold). Normally the dell cards (in case you don't have one) wont update with Orinoco firmware straight from their site. That is why I made the web page to supply my copy of the edited binaries to allow the other dell card users to update. Unless I miss worded something on site, which is entirely possible! thanks for doing everyone a service and documenting the procedure better...i'd made numerous postings to various threads on how to do it but never had the time to fully document it. |

Thanks for the reply RedRover. This stuff is new and confusing, kind of reminds me when I first learned to hack dishnetwork! I'll keep at it though and maybe start rumblin', bumblin', and stumblin'.
What's this I hear about disabling tcp/ip? That doesn't seem to make sense, because even though you're getting wireless internet access, that's at layer 2, you still need the tcp/ip stack to route packets. Will I need to disable tcp/ip? Thanks. |

The reason you want to disable TCP/IP (and all other network protocols) is that you don't want to route packets while wardriving. Let me state further, you do not want to obtain "wireless internet access" at any time while wardriving/stumbling. Unauthorized connection to a network is illegal in every juridiction we've seen so far. We, (the administrators, moderators and general members of these forums) do not condone illegal activity. To keep the chances of accidentally creating an illegal network connection while wardriving, we encourage everyone to disable network protocols generally, and TCP/IP specifically.
