usb wireless nic with ext. antenna?

usb wireless nic with ext. antenna?

i'm looking for a usb nic with a ext. antenna for wardriving and what-not... usb 2.0, and linux support would be nice.

are usb devices ok for this stuff? or should i just use pcmica hardware?

doing research for a linux/windows car pc. i want to be able to play mp3/divix, have navagation maps with gps, and wardrive with style

i was thinking usb would be nice so i could mount the nic and antenna outside of the trunk (on the roof of my car, magmount).

what do you think?

I don't know of any but pretty much any USB nic can be modded as such.

USB 2.0 and linux might be a problem, and I doubt there are any USB 2.0 802.11b/a devices as it won't use that kind of bandwidth. It just isn't cost effective to use this superfast controller chip and not use the bandwidth. Overall linux support shouldn't be too hard if you stick with major brands.

Car PC fun but thats a whole diffrent story and task to do. Much easier to use a laptop.

Well if you simply put the USB NIC outside the cab of the car you should be able to decently wardrive (without any antenna modding). Also it would be the best to put the highest place in your car as possigle (IE top of your cab).

Finally if you wish to use NetStumbler (dunno as your linux referances) you will need to make sure you USB NIC is compatable with NetStumbler. As not all of them are going to be compatable.
