Use cisco 340 on win2k with NS?!?!?!
okay this is what i've done. And i'd like to say that this card works on a laptop with XP (no SP installed).
INstalled a clean version of win2k, installed SP2, upgraded firmware on card to V4.25.30, Ndis driver V8.1.7.26 (same as PCMCIA card driver version) installed latest version of netstumbler version 3.30 installed Cisco ACU version 5.02.005 still net stumbler won't find the wireless card. in NS when i go to devices, it says there are two device which are both greyed out. My ethernet adapter obviously won't work they other one says: "Cisco Systems 340 Series PCMCIA Wireless LAN Adapter Cisco (unsupported)" This is really starting to shit me off and b4 you say "why don't you just use the XP machine?" i cant its not my machine and we don't have a version of XP. Besides i'm determined to get it to work with Win2k. Any other ideas? someone?...... PLease? Is there anything i have over looked? |

where did you get the drivers from?
I've mentioned in the past that there are TWO Windows driver kits on Cisco's site. Bundle 1 and bundle 2. Bundle 1 does NOT work with 2K and NS. Bundle 2 DOES work with my 342 card , 2K and NS.
Etherpeeks custom driver did NOT work.. Microsofts standard Cisco PCMCIA card did NOT work Cisco 340 radio firmware# PC340v42523 340 driver 8.2.3.0 dated 3/19/2002 Determistic Network Driver 2.11.7.4 no date winsock 3.10 Windows 2K SP2 Compaq M700 current flash BIOS While it works, the Lucent (Gold) is a better card since it has the external antenna port. I NEVER got ANY of my wireless gear working with Win2K - and that includes following the instructions that came with the Lucent card TO THE LETTER.
The strange thing I found is the exact same driver that won't work with 2K plays perfectly in XP - go figure! |

As in the FAQ.....
Here is a FAQ for the Cisco cards under XP. You will have varing results depending the the chipset of your PCMCIA slot(s). I am looking for some updated driver/ another fix for this issue.
