Question Using a WAP11 as AP without a hub?

I have a WAP11 that I want to run as an Access Point Client, but I don't want to use a hub, is it possible to provide the Client network link using just a PC NIC?

I've tried it using a straight Cat5 cable, with no joy, would a 'NIC to NIC cable' provide what the WAP11 is after?

As you can tell, pretty new to this, so all advice greatly received.

I believe if you want connection without a hub or switch you need to use whats called a "cross -over" cable.

I'm guessing a "NIC to NIC" cable is a crossover. Actually, it is. Unfortunatly, I don't know the answer to your question.

X-over cable Cat 5

A cross over cable is exactly what you need.

You can buy one or make one. To make one, just reverse the Orange and the Green pairs in the RJ45 connectors. Like so:

You're welcome. BTW, some cables have white traces on the solid colors.

So it would be:
White w/Orange trace
Orange w/White trace

instead of:
White w/Orange trace
Orange

Just follow the predominant color.

I like your graphic. Is that for Ninja Linux?

Hmm can't remember where I got the graphic, but you're probably right. My only Linux knowledge is of RH7 on one of the systems here.

The Linksys owners manuals (At least for the BEFW11S4) which are available on-line have a chapter which shows the wiring layout for both straight and crossover cables.

(I'm assuming the online manual has the same contents as what comes in the box...)
