WAP 11 v2.2 ROM code 1.1 is defective.

Just confirmed in Agent Green labs this morning...version 1.1 of the WAP11 v2.2 ROM code does not work properly in all cases.

In this case, my Orinoco Gold card got a very weak signal and was not able to receive data from the AP after a successful association. Also during this time, it was noted that the firmware update capabilites of the unit also went south.

A downgrade to 1.01j was possible only after immediately power-cycling the access point, after which association and regular use was once again possible.

This may not affect all users, so your mileage may vary.

Re: WAP 11 v2.2 ROM code 1.1 is defective.

NOW I find this post! I've been tearing my hair out for days trying to get an Orinoco Gold card to talk to my Linksys WAP 11 ver 2.2 with that firmware version. Tell me how you downgraded the version....I don't understand what you mean below.

Just do the downgrade as agentgrn says to Firmware v.1.01j.

What's not to understand?

when during the powercycling to upload the new firmaware to the AP. Power off, power on, upload the firmware, power off and on again? Also, Linksys did not have the old version firmware in the WAP11 ver 2.2 download area.

Ignore quote below...I was tired, frustrated and overly grumpy. I also discovered that this was not entirely the problem. With Win2000 SP3, NS, a Linksys WAP 11 ver 2.2 (with the bum firmware) and an Orinoco Gold card, you have to CLONE your PC's network adapter to the Linksys router. As soon as I did that....BOOM, I went from no connection at all to top of the line "Excellent!" Sheesh...no one in a million years would have suggested that to me (everyone just kept sending me pages from set up manuals or telling me to read their handy dandy FAQ's which never address anything pertinent). Lucky I have a brain....and am not afraid to use it!

1) Load the downgrade binary file.
2) Power cycle. (That is to say: Turn it off, then on.)

Last time I looked at Linksys, everything was there. Did you look through all the subdirectories? I believe it's under network, although it may be under old.

OK, you can ignore my post. Looks like we were both on at about the same time.

Glad that you got it fixed.

Lost my signal again after that last post when I tried to set a WEP key. Apparently, Win2000 also has a problem with not requesting a new IP address when using the Linksys WAP with the Orinoco card. Additionally, was getting some rather strange interference from a neighbor's WAP: MY AP was showing as being active but my card was trying to get an IP from HIS WAP even though his was showing as out of radio range. The Netgear apparently has a much stronger range than the Linksys even when I added a signal booster to the Linksys. He was using the same channel as mine so we were playing frequency footsy. Hazards of living in overdeveloped development...
