WAP54g Point 2 Point 4 miles away

Welp we successfully did tests of factory linksys wap54g on 24db mmds dishes. it works great, but our anticipation was brought to a halt when it acted odd on YDI amp2440 amps. when link was made it would only do 1.54mbps both ways w/o amps. the min we pluged in amps it wouldnt interact at all with the remote locatin. its odd didnt anticipate this to happen and we are not sure why its happening. we are testing to see if we can make a cheap backbone to succesfuly deliver alittle bit more then 4mbps, therefore we deployed the 54g equipment. to my understanding i have not seen anyone try to put these in a long haul enviroment. well they work but not to my needs yet! especially with no amps. it also worked with 54g on one side and WET11 on the other. my main concern is why the 54g and the amp isnt working right? could it be that the TX and RX is going to fast for the amp to switch? any ideas. Hope i dont get flames b/c we used linksys but hell we are doing some different things no 1 else has tried yet just for the fun of it. Pardon any grammer mistakes its late at nite and I dont want to consider this an essay. just got back from watching the matrix it was a pretty good movie. take it easy hope i can get some ideas on this problem....

its cuz the amps do 1 channel at a time
g standard relies on broadcasting 5 channels simultanously

There is some kind of issue with 54g over long distances from what I can make out. If they're a few hundred feet apart, lets say I've a SNR of 25dB and I can get a transfer speed of 1.5MB/sec (just an example; I've forgotton the actual figures). Move them to 5KM apart and get the same SNR, and the speed levels off at around 150KB/sec. If I connect my laptop straight in with 54G it will associate at 54MBit, but as soon as I start a file transfer the reported speed drops to 2MBit and file transfers around 150KB/sec. I have done extensive testing with this setup, using Linksys WAP54Gs bridged, and with Buffalo WBR54G routers with WDS and I got exactly the same results. Both of these use Broadcom radios, so maybe thats the problem, but I was told by a Buffalo distributor that a new firmware update would be coming soon which should correct the problem.

I too was hoping to use these for a faster backbone, and purchased the buffalos after failing with the Linksys. The handy thing with the buffalos is that you can force them to 11b and get your 500 - 600KB/sec, something I couldnt do with the WAP54Gs, but still not acceptable as thats all I had before.

Another wierd thing i noticed that pissed me off was when i put the units in bridge mode both they slowed down to 60kbps and under.... that was a real disapointment... but the min i left 1end at bridge mode and the other in ap it connected at 150kbps+ and bursted to 180kbps, this is sad... it should work...

have you tried crippling them down to straight 802.11b in the advanced properties of the driver? It should work with an amp then.

too bad those pines sway too much in the wind, you'd have the perfect realllly tall antenna pole!! I've climbed too many getting the family cat out of them to count! I have the same problem with where I live now, have to put both sat dishes 35 feet in the air to get over the trees, another year and I'm gonna have to start pruning. Unfortunately they are in teh neighbors yard!!
