weird - original BEFW11S4 eventually slows all traffic to molasses until power cyclin

hey folks.

i remember helping a linux-friend get his first linksys router several months ago - with DISASTROUS results...

i spent several days on dslreports.com forums trying to figure out why he had to power-cycle his router every few minutes in order to complete downloads!

well, of course it was a firmware problem - so he eventually flashed and all was "well".

i laughed at his misadventure - claiming my original BEFW11S4 was BULLETPROOF.

well, several weeks later, i notice my network traffic is slow as molasses - wireless cams won't refresh, internet sites download at dialup speeds....wha?

i switched OS'en, switched boxen, etc, with the same results.

in the end, i powered down everything, including the linksys wireless router and cable modem and started it back up in reverse order (cable, router, devices that talk to router)

VIOLA'

superhuman speeds once again!

now, i do this about every month, especially if i notice the traffic slowing down over a couple of days.

WHAT the heck is going on here?

does anyone know?

my forwarded ports are very simple, only about 5.

the linksys routers and basically all routers with the siemens residential gateway firmware have a serious problem with UDP packets

this involves nearly all games some streaming video, streaming audio, DNS and a host of other things that will slam it eventually

so pretty much at some point, after requesting <n> packets of streaming video from my internal LAN, it craps?

hmm - yeah, this was never a problem before i set up the cams.

i guess i will have to run that CAT-5 after all...
