When I got my Senao 2611 CB3+ I was very excited about the extended coverage. I also purchased a Linksys 7.5 Db Gain Antenna with a TNC connector (comes in 2 pack but I sold one of them). The gain was around 15 to 25 percent of a Standard WET11 Ver 2. Then I decided to try and upgrade an old WET11 Ver 1 just to see what the difference would be (you can't upgrade the ver 2, the one with the sisco emblem on it). I purchased the older WET11 Ver 1 on Ebay, Then found a Senao 2511 CD+ PCMCIA Card. I disassembled the WET11 Ver 1 (there are 2 screws under the rubber feet) removed the radio card and the stand off's (easy stuff). Inserted the Senao PCMCIA card (make sure you plug it in with the led side of the card up). I put it back together and attached a Linksys 7.5 Db Gain Antenna RP-SMA and wham.... I get a 75% increase in signal strength. Now I don't know how true the signal strength indication is on these units, It may be that the WET11 is just showing a better strength than the Senao 2611 CB3 but If I were starting from scratch to find a better client bridge I would hack an old wet11. Oh yea update to the latest firmware on the WET11....

It's good stuff, the WET11 stock card is 30 mW, the Senao is 200. No wonder you observed a performance gain! It's something I've wanted to do for ages, but, I can't find a version 1 WET11 on ebay for cheap enough. Let's face it, when you put that card in, you hardly need a new antenna.

Stick with with a good 5.5 dBi rubber duck. Those 7dBi Linksyss are garbage. I tested it on my Wireless router and my wireless card. There was actually loss. I that it may have been the narrow vertical pattern, but no they are just universially sucky.

I got some after market 7s for my DI-624. I can get a connection from 3 blocks away. I suppose it helps that the AP is on the top floor, where there is no aluminum siding, and the house is on a rather large hill.

Are they those Linksys antennas? Because those ones were garbage for me. However, I hooked my AP up to my 8.5 its a different story
. Though it has a really flat vertical pattern so you have to position it right. I cant wait for my Senao 3054 CB3 + Delux and try it out on that. |
