What kinda connector is this?

Hey all,

I have a Proxim Rangelan-DS 802.11b card (Model 8040) and it has an external antenna jack but I am not sure what type of connector it is. I bought a MMCX to N pigtail from www.fab-corp.com because the site says that they are the right cable for Proxim cards but I got the cable and it didn't fit.

Can anyone identify this connector so that I can get the right cable?

Thanks. :-)

Actually, you have Proxim RangeLAN-DS Model 8433-05 card! These cards are OEM of Zcomax XI-300B card. They have integrated antenna with a connector that no one knows what type it is and if it is actually connected internally. ZyXEL ZyAir 100 is the same card with same connectors...

Proxim has a RangleLAN-DS Model 8434-05 which has a snap on antenna. When you remove the antenna from the card you see two MMCX plugs. They are reportedly RP-MMCX. I bought a 8434-05 from a person that stocked them and coupled it to the pigtail originated from Hyperlink. It works with Fab-corp Mag mount antennna.

I found a document on Zcom's site that claimed that the integrated antenna is RP-SMA female connector but RP-SMA male does not fit there (it is bigger in size). I am afraid you are out of luck until you find someone that recognize the connector.

I went to the trouble of getting snap-on antenna version because I wanted to add the antenna to ZyXEL P316 Wireless router which houses a ZyXEL ZyAir 100 (Zcom XI-300B) in the slot like your Proxim.

Well, the antenna benefited the Proxim 8434-05 I bought when it was on the Laptop but when I actually put it on the P316 it actually degraded the signal. It must be something the way P316 is configuring the antenna system. There are two MMCX connectors. Laptop is happy when only one antenna is used. I think P316 uses both connectors at the same time.

Perhaps, you can exchange the MMCX pigtail with orinoco pigtail...

The
connector you see on the surface is use for antenna collabortion in the
factory. Please do not connect anything to it.
Ok then...it seems that trying to find a pigtail for it will do no good. Thanks for the link mr_wlan.
