Who uses a cheap antenna?

I'd like to get that 5 dbi antenna from fab corp but the price is kinda high, i want to spend $25 or less. If anyone uses one of those cheap antennas does it work decently? i dont need the best as long as it gets the job done (I saw a 7 dbi mag mount on ebay that looks good)

Antennae are something where you truly get what you pay for. Those 7dBi antennae that everyone thinks are a great bargain have very high-loss cable on it. As such, the total gain is about 2dB.

Expect to spend at least $50 for a good 5dBi antenna.

thanks for the info, i am really trying to avoid that price tag. Did anyone find a good deal on a good antenna for maybe $30-40?

Mine was in that price range, but I built it. I also had a good supply of lmr-400 cable for free. Never tried calculating the dbi.

Cantennas cost around $10 to make and they are way more effective than a weak omni.
