Whole house coverage.
I know there are many people who know a lot about wireless on this forum so I thought I would ask. I am trying to setup a house with wireless throughout.
The problem is the house is two story and is concrete slab so I can't run cables. Right now the wireless access point is in the far corner of the garage. I would like to either add a repeater WAP or build an antenna system that would work better. BTW I am not sure if the repeater idea is even feasible. Also we are currently using an old lucent orinico home access point, are there devices that have a longer range? Thanks in advance. |

Goto Home Despot and get a hammer drill and a 3ft. masonary
bit, find a good spot and drill a hole from the 1st floor to the 2nd. Best place is in a corner. Or you can try to find the access path for all the power cables/pipes that have to get up there somehow.

Another alternative is to use powerline components, where ethernet is transmitted over AC lines. You can then use wireless AP powerline modules to get whole house coverage.
The powerline products were briefly on the market earlier this year, but they seem to have disappeared all together from retail stores. I've seen some mixed reviews on them. Several of the online vendors seem to still have the Siemens powerline WAP. |

Only bad thing about Power line ethernet is that it turns
your whole houle into a big antenna.. Which can futz with your neighbors radio stuff.. Hope you don't have a HAM living near-by ![]()
