Wifi - Proxim Orinoco 802.11a/b Combocard Gold (External Antenna Modification)
Hello
I just purchased a Proxim Orinoco 802.11a/b Combocard Gold after owning the Proxim Orinoco 802.11b Gold Card. I have dismantled the card and found there is a mount for the antenna and I drilled out the plastic to show the mount from the outside. Basically on my old card the hole was already there and all I had to do was attach my external antenna via the pigtail. As this card is different I was wondering what I would need to insert to make it attach to my card connect to my antenna? Picture of my card and the connector I am talking about [TO BE ADDED SOON] Any help/ ideas/ suggestions would be most appreciated. Cheers Naaaaaaaaaa

Doesn't look like you have to deal with the FCC, but the connector is probably a Hirose U-FL. Do a search here, and see if it looks the same. In the US, you are not allowed to put an external antenna on an a card.

Thinking about it, after looking at that site, I am back to the same problem.
I have no idea what pig tail I need. Also, I have a pig tail on the end of my 7.8dbi magmount antenna. This doesnt connect to the card. I know I sound stupid but this really has baffled me!!

Most (about 99% as seen on these forums) internal jacks are Hirose U-FL. The are designed and marketed as a test jack, so that the manufacturer can do final QC tests and make sure that there is RF output; it's at the right power levels, etc. The problem with these jacks is that they are not designed for repeated use. They have a life of 100 insertions (or less.) If it is one of these jacks, you either don't want to use it, or you will need to leave the pgitail in all the time. Otherwise you'll kill the connector in short order.

Sure, all it takes is money.
You could put something completely different on there, but good luck finding a jack that is both physically small enough and you can get in a quantity of one. (OEM's by them by the thousands, and that's how there usually sold.) Try Digikey.
