WiFi users emulator

Hi all
I am looking for a WiFi user’s emulator card, for test purposes.
Can you please recommend me on some cards?
(I am not looking for a machine, because it's too expensive)

Thank a lot

I think he's looking to either emulate traffic from clients or to load test his gear somehow.

The only people I can think of that might know would be NEWT

Asked google about wifi traffic emulators and got quite a few hits, some I will explore when I get home (yes I am playing around at work)

I bet you could do this the following way:

1. Forge 64 sets of connection packets (probe, auth, etc.) with different source MACs.
2. Forge 64 sets of UDP data at random, from above MACs to whatever IP address you want to grab the data at on the wired side.
3. Run a script that fakes auth of the 64 clients by running the forged packets, then start blasting the AP with the goo UDP traffic.
4. Watch your AP go up in flames

Plausible? It's not the same as 64 real clients, but it should load your AP nicely.

Cheers,

Mother

Just as an FYI, the number of clients an AP can effectively use varies according to the make and model. Some will do more than 64, some less. Load testing will also depend on traffic type.

I have never seen the wireless equivalent of a SmartBits. My general rule of thumb is an average of 25 users per AP with a max of 50 per AP. 64 users doing anything more than checking email will tank most APs. A couple of idiots downloading iTunes will just about bury it if you have a decent internet uplink.

I would look more for enterprise grade equipment that supports Quality of Service and Traffic Shaping.
