Wired side audit

All,

I am auditing a network for Access-Points on the wired side of things. Fetching ARP tables from numerous devices, then comparing the MAC addresses against a table of known AP manufacturer/device addresses.

All I have is the list insluded with Kismet to compare against:
http://svn.kismetwireless.net/code/trunk/conf/ap_manuf

I doubt that http://standards.ieee.org/regauth/oui/oui.txt is of much help.

Does anyone have a more complete list of MAC Addresses per Manufacturer and make of Access Point?

TIA.

I believe that list is what most of us use for OUI's. I was able to take that list and translate it into an Excel file and from there into an Access database so I could quickly cross reference it. I don't know if there is a list that actually calls out which OUI belongs to which particular device or not. Might be something you could develop.

Did exactly the same thing last time (sans MS Access). Netstumbler seems to have a list of approximately 138 AP vendors compiled into it as well. Netstumbler is likely matching MAC addresses as well but features a more complete list.

I wonder where this list comes from and if there are any others...

That list is by no means complete anymore. All the new Linksys Gear has a OUI that not on that list. The list from IEEE should be the most up to date.

Info about my stumbling setup:

- Wired side stumbling
- Fetching ARP tables from network devices
- Comparing against IEEE OUIs

Thanks for pointing out in such an elaborate manner that this belongs into the Hardware section.

138 is what I see. I am curious why some of them are actually in there.

Don't push your luck... One thing is that I had to fix your lazyass mistake and move the thread, but being a wiseass about it is NOT a smart move if you want to continue posting here. You have been warned.

There is no more complete list available. The definitive list is the one you identified at IEEE. Exactly why do you feel that it won't be of much help?

I'm thinking that he's thinking it's not a help because it only shows who owns the OUI, but not which device in particular that OUI is assigned to. Therefore there's some work involved in matching up device to OUI.
