Wireless serial port......?????
I have a need for a wireless serial port connection. I work for the railroad and download files from crossing equiptment, hotbox detectors and such all day long. I have a long flat cable that I lay out to connect to the device that I use now. I need to connect to devices at 300, 1200, 9600 baud. I would like to be able to set a wifi unit at the device and connect to my laptop dock in my van wireless. Can this be done with a wifi device. Thanks

Would something like this work? Serial out of your service boxes into this devices. It then transmits it via Bluetooth to a bluetooth adaptor on your notebook. I've never worked with something like this. Maybe someone else here might have an idea if it would work or not. |

streaker69, Thanks for the link. That is along the lines of what I want. That unit only goes down to 9600 and I have a lot of older stuff that connects at 1200 and it will not change. Am I right in thinking that all I would need to talk to this device is a bluetooth card for my laptop or dock?

What about the tick. Although you may have to go with powered rs-485 if noise/distance becomes an issue.

I sent them my work address for a price quote. I'll let you know what they say, in case you're interested.

I would definately be interested in the pricing. No need for all of us to get on their mailing list. Let us know when you get a reply.
