WISP Config/Planning Questions
A few friends and I are looking to start off what could hopefully turn into a WISP, and bring Wi-Fi to our downtown area. With recent development of a multi-million dollar hotel/conference center in our area, I can see a niche where people with PDA's, IP Cell Phones, and other TCP/IP equipment could utilitize the availability of Wi-Fi in our area.
Here's where I'm stumped...let's say I have 5 friends across town that I'd like to connect to my home network. I understand that I will need an Access Point to my switch, and a sector antenna for my end. On my client's ends, they would need either radio cards (single machine), or a bridge (multiple machines). Correct? Now, if I wanted one of my friends to extend my network from their point of presense, would I then need another AP and antenna so that clients could connect to my network through my friend's AP? (I think what I'm trying to do is figure out if it's possible for a client in the south end of town to jump AP's until reaching (or routing) to my servers). Any information would be so GREATLY appreciated. |
