Would this work right???
I have a wmp54g pci card and bought a HGA7S 7.5db gain antenna that just screws right into the pci card.
I am getting good links driving around but was looking to make the antenna external. Right now the pc is on the back seat floor... and hoping to get alittle more out of it. I have a F150 and don't mind mounting the antenna on the roof.(cutting a hole in the roof to mount a base of some sort) I rather have somehing more perminate than the cheapy magnetic type ones you see on the bay. I searched for mounts but came up with really nothing... The closest I have seen was sma panel mount connectors. I'm not to sure how they would fair in weather thou. Well I guess I should ask if it would work with a panel mount type connector on the roof with the HGA7S antenna. Then use a 5-6 foot cable to the pci card. Thanks for any info... Bmo |

The two listed here are NMO magnetic mounts, just take them off the mag base, and put onto a NMO mount on the vehicle. http://www.antennasystems.com/broadband.html Search google for others, or ask at the local radio shops that service Public Safety vehicles and taxis. Be prepared to spend $$ for the mount and installation.

Thanks again for the info,
Today I stopped by a local ham radio shop and they had the nmo mount with the cable. He had acouple of 2.4ghz antennas but they were all 20" and 70-80 dollars. We talked alittle about what I was trying to do and he he gave me acouple of pointers on were to mount the base on the roof and cable loss issues.... He also had a 1.6ghz antenna that he said I could trim down to 2.4 wasn't to sure about that thou. I think that I am going to go with the HG2403U-NMO from hyperlink. The only problem is that they only except orders over 100.00. Does anyone know were I can order this one or even maybe that type, that doesn't require a large order. Thanks again for the help Bmo |

Update...
I went with the HG2403U-NMO antenna. I got a nmo mount and used lmr-400. Mounted the nmo about center of the trucks roof, and soldered the lmr-400 to the nmo. The run of cable is about 7 feet, then terminated with a rp-sma connector that plugs right into the card. It works better than I thought it would. Almost doubled the ap's using netstumbler. I really wanted it for connecting to my home wireless when I am in the driveway for up/downloading files, I now get 30-35 snr from about 100 feet way. The router is located in the rear of the house, so it has to travel threw several wall and a garage... Thanks for all the input and info Bmo Last edited by bmo1 : 04-09-2005 at 09:22 PM. |
