Would you buy a third-party cable? Anyone have problems with them?

I never considered buying a third-party manufactured data cable for my Garmin GPS but the cost is so high and it is less than half the price to buy one off of eBay.

I'm a little apprehensive about the combo (data and cigarette lighter power adapter) cable. Is it weird that I'd worry about hooking my GPS up using unknown quality power source? :/

Has anyone ever had problems with them? Such as fried their GPS heh.

I bought a third party cable for my e-map for 13 bucks off of ebay. The Garmin OEM data and power cable was 50 bucks. Love it.

There's a fuse in the Cig. attachment to prevent your GPS from
getting fried. As for 3rd party cables, in the end it's only cable,

hell you can even may your own.

I built my own cable, and so far so good.

FWIW that fuse in the line isn't gonna stop your GPS from getting fried - it WILL stop your fried GPS from setting your car on fire though

I wouldnt worry about it, its only a simple interface, like the other guys say lots of people make their own, garmin even sell a cable with bare wires one end so you can hook it up to other devices, check out some ham radio, packet/aprs forums all those guys usually buy a cheap cable off ebay then add whatever plug they need to fit their TNC/radio (th-d7). most hams would be too tight to pay 50 bucks for a proprietry cable.

BTW did you guys know Joe walsh out the EAGLES and barnstormer is a radio ham, think he,s been known to show up at the dayton hamvention.

ciao......paul
