Well..If you take about 8ft. of Cat-5 cable and wrap about
2ft of it around the part of the card that sticks out of the PC
and strap the remaining part onto a pole it MIGHT work.

Just kidd'n..Not unless you plan to crack the card open and solder
on one of thos tiny connectors. Which I think might not work
anyway as the card is putting out 5Ghz as well as 2.4Ghz.

If u want a card that works with NS, stay with the 802.11b cards.
The best is either a Lucent Gold Card or Senaro. ($50-80)

as for the GPS, you only need it to output NMEA, so try a
Garmin Etrex on Ebay..you should beable to get one for under
$100.

I thought 802.11G was 2.4Ghz. Why would it be putting out 5Ghz too?

You're right. Think MadHatter miss-spoke or his has no experience with "G." 802.11G is a 2.5 ghz-based system. It does not use 5 ghz although it attempts to rival the speed of 802.11A.

Correction.. I thought it was an A/B card...
Just a brain fart

As a person who designs and installs enterprise networks I
do belive I have the experience with Network gear, perhaps
more than the normal user here...

Well I have this card, and just started War driving like 3 days ago, I've found over 30 APs in my little hick town so it much be a pretty good card. And that's all with no Antenna, just laptop and card. I too thought about adding an Antenna, but with the findings I've been getting without one, I don't really see the need atm to add an antenna.

Hi, I also have a Linksys WPC54G and went driveing on a short drive home and found 7 APs, all UNPROTECTED, how stupid are these people, lol. I just found one at my school, let it scan for like 30 mins and boom found it (after moving to a diff room) and all my classes just seem to be out of range for the network card to make a connection. I can make a connection out in the hallway and if i walk slowly i can bring it into the room, but its rare that i get it at all, lol. And whoever set up this network is also an idiot, not secured at all, no wep, no mac address filtering, nothing! I was wondering if there is absolutely ANY way to increase the range on the card? I kno it doesnt have an antenna jack on it, stupid Linksys. Any tips or anything? Im pretty new to the stumbling scene. Went on a main road in my town the other day, found about 30/40 aps in under an hour (not sure exactly) most unprotected. As for compatibility with the WPC54G and Netstumbler, i have never had a problem with it. Always worked for me. I used Netstumbler in conjunction with the Linksys Utility, Windows XP SP2's network finding thing, and WiNc. I use Netstumbler to find the networks in the first place. WiNc is pretty good at changing locations, like from school to home, automatically switches over

Any help greatly appreciated!

These are networks you are authorized to connect to?

Of course! I was just saying that as an example, i havent actually connected to a site outside on the street. I was saying that as an example, because thats what it does.

(I meant i was authorized to connect to the net at my school when i said of course!)

Yup, those RF signals are pretty fuckin' stupid...if you walk REAL slow they won't know you're moving and they don't fall off of the antenna.
