WRT54G & BEFSX41
I have had a linksys BEFSX41 router for a while now. I finally bought a WRT54G that I wanted to add on as an access point. I chose the WRT54G because of the awesome firmware thats available for it through sveasoft. Anyways, I have the internet connection coming into the BEFSX41 (192.168.0.1) and then going to the first port of the WRT54G (192.168.0.2). However when I have my PC wired into the WRT54G, on startup it will get pull in the gateway as 192.168.0.2 and I cannot connect. If i release the IP and renew it, It grabs 192.168.0.1 as the gateway and everything works perfect. So, my question to you all is what is the best way to hook all of this up to get it working perfectly.

BEFSR41 & WRT54G
Hi,
I've been using my BEFSR41 Linksys router for my network for several years, and I want to add on the WRT54G, instead of replace. The motivation is that I can test the WRT54G at other locations and take it with me. I've set the WRT54G to a static IP: 192.168.1.2, gateway 192.168.1.1, which is my BEFSR41 router. With the Sveasoft Sartori 4.0 firmware, I can telnet/ssh into the WRT54G, and ping 192.168.1.1 as well as any other computer on the 192.168.1.* network. But I cannot ping to the outside world. Some things I should note are: 1) Under "Wireless > Basic Settings" I have the Wireless Mode set to AP. 2) I can connect via a CAT5 cable to the WRT54G with my laptop, and still have internet connectivity. 3) Now, I been reading about "client mode", which you would use in the situation where you have two WRT54G's and you want them to connect two LANs, say on the first floor and second floor of your house. 4) when I do ifconfig, I see that vlan0 and eth0 have the same RX and TX statistics 5) I'm not sure what the br0 device is for. Do I need bridging? |
