Xbox Live / WDS
My original WRT54G is running the original Linksys firmware and on the 2nd floor. My Xbox 360 is in the living room, but it was looking to be problematic to run CAT5 to the 360 without it turning into a huge project. Furthermore, I don't have a wireless adapter for the 360 and don't have the funds to pick one up.
I thought about using WDS, but didn't want to reflash the firmware on my original WRT because I have a lot of configuration changes, and don't want to spend all day duplicating them on the new firmware. Enter DD-WRT v24 (beta), which allows you to use WDS on the second WRT while keeping your original firmware/settings/etc on the first WRT. I found a very easy to follow tutorial here. As you know, WDS gives you only 1/2 bandwidth on the second WRT, but this does not appear to have caused any issues. Simultaneous downloading/uploading torrents, active VOIP connection, and two active computers on the network only caused a few minor issues during gameplay. Nothing brand new here, but it might help you get your setup working. ![]()
