I recently picked up a Xircom CWE1120 WiFi card on ebay...
I'm planning to eventually get an AP for the house so I can sit in my patio with my laptop and surf thru my cable modem.. Until then I thought I'd try some lo-level "stumbling" around Las Vegas.. However, I now realize that apparently some WiFi cards have an external antenna connection, and apparently the Xircom I have does not.. :-< Being a ham radio op, I'm pretty up on RF up to about 450mhz.. Beyond that, it's FM (flippin' magic) and I'm pretty clueless.. Since we're talking 2.4ghz here, how do passive antennas or coupled antennas work at 802.11b freqs? And if they're half-way decent, are there any links to building one? Having built many HF/VHF/UHF antennas, I think I can follow the theory.. TIA Dave in Las Vegas... |
