XP driver for the Proxim Range LAN 2 ?
Does anyone know if Proxim or anyone else has written an XP driver for the Proxim Range LAN 2 card.
This card was used with their old FHSS radios. It is great as an inexpensive spectrum analyzer for finding noise. Only problem I can't get a driver for XP to use it. |

I was able to find this, though as I do not have a RangeLan 2 I am unable to test it. Give this a try, tell me if it works: http://redsec.info/temp/RL2WIN2K.zip

Hi Redsector:
I gave it a try and no luck. It still might be the right driver. I probably didn't load it right. Someone else also said that might be the one. I'll try again soon and let you know if I'm successful. I see they are listed as being for Win 2000, not XP. But somebody else said they had the Win 2000 driver working on XP. Thank you. |

Hi RedSector:
Thank you for the post. I called Proxim and they said they don't have an XP driver for the RangeLan2 7400. They said there might be a third party driver out there. I searched on Google, but no luck. I guess I will have to get Win 2000 put on my laptop just so I can run the RangeLan2. If anyone has any other info that would be great. Thank you. |

I ran into a gentleman on the Internet that told me he uses v 17b.22 RangeLan2 driver on his XP OS with SP2.
Might anyone else on here been able to get the RangeLan2 card working with XP? This card is a great basic spectrum analyzer to find noise. The latest driver for the RangeLan2 was written for Win2000. But this fellow said it works on his XP computer. Do I assume that an OS like XP is backwards compatible to accept hardware drivers written for Win 2000 and Win 98? In this case the hardware driver Win 2000 17b.22 written for the RangeLan2 card, works for you on your XP OS? Thanks for any other help. |

Most Win2000 drivers will work with XP. There is no guarantee though. If this other guy says he has gotten them to work, then there is a very good possiblity for you to do the same.
Win98 drivers are a different story. 99.999% of the time they will not work with any NT variant (NT 4.0, Win2000, WinXP).

Hello Thorn:
Thank you for your reply. I know some things are backwards compatible, but I made the assumption that Win 2000 drivers wouldn't work on XP. But I'm no networking guru. I really appreciate you confirming that many Win 2000 drivers will work under XP. I'll see what I can find out. That looks like a nice wardriving book. Looks like you you a contributing author? Really neat. I love learning about thie WiFi stuff. I'm an rf person from way back. I think all that rf made my hair fall out...lol. I just need to learn how to apply it better to WiFi and WISP operations. Have my Amateur Extra and FCC Commercial. Have worked up to 18 G in cellular. So I really appreciate being able to read over the posts here. I need to learn how to install Netstumbler on my iPAQ 5555. I seem to remember somewhere on here, that Netstumbler now works on the iPAQ 5555 machines? Wow. You sure do a lot of posts...lol. Have a nice week, Last edited by hotelwifi : 01-09-2005 at 09:25 PM. |

Don't be surprised if you do get a W2k driver to install undrer WinXP that the driver shows up as installed but you get flakey results. Or that the hardware shows up with the dreaded yellow exclamation over it.
Look for the absolute latest version of whatever W2k driver you need as that has the best chance of working. When installing a W2k driver under WinXP you will probably get a box warning you against it. Just click by it.
