Same answer as always:
RTFM. There is a README.HTML file which comes with NetStumbler. As the name implies, you should read it. Inside is a list of supported and unsupported cards. If it is not on the supported list, then it will not work. It may work in the NDIS mode* under XP/Win2k, but it may not. The NDIS mode seems to be very variable. Install at your own risk. Read the FAQ thread for details. *A bridged/pseudo mode that does not have all the standard NetStumbler features.

Nothing personal; I tend to be rather direct, and make declarative statements. Some people who value social niceties over technically correct statements think this is too abrupt.
Most of this information is readily available, if you do some basic research (like the README file.) Unfortunately though, all too many people ask these questions time and again. This is what started the the FAQ thread. While the FAQ threads get read, the questions still come up. I will admit the whole XP/NDIS/Prism chipset is confusing, but it is detailed.

Any wireless card should work with netstumbler in windows 2k/xp IF you get the driver from windows update which is 100% com with ndis 5.1.

Wrong.
What part didn't you understand? "It may work in the NDIS mode* under XP/Win2k, but it may not. The NDIS mode seems to be very variable. *A bridged/pseudo mode that does not have all the standard NetStumbler features" The truth is that NDIS mode: A) Doesn't always work correctly, B) Sometimes never works at all on a given machine, and C) Because of the bridging nature, all of the features of NS are not always available. The best example is the Noise readings. They are always wrong: Any card using the NDIS driver gets a fixed noise measurement of -100db, making for an inaccurate measurement of SNR. The only cards 100% guaranteed to work ar the Hermes chipset cards: ORiNOCO (classics) and rebrands. No other cards are supported. Read the FAQs.

I installed the NDIS 5.1 driver...and while the NS app seems to work, now I can't get any connections to my OWN AP. This is an initial finding...I bet I am missing something obvious.
I also confirm the -100db Noise post of Thorn's.

Where's NDIS 5.1
It's part of the Win2K 'delivered' drivers.
Go to Network neighborhood, pick the card, hit "configure" where the card is listed ("General->Connect using). Go to the 'drivers' tab. hit the "update driver" button. In the wizard, have it search for a driver on the C drive. Look for one that says something like netadm11.sys After it configures, you might need to do a 'disable' then 'enable' on your card.
