AirpcapTX (Belkin dongle) external antenna

Postby karavay » Tue Nov 06, 2007 5:22 pm

Has anyone opened airpcap tx dongle from cacetech $289 :) - if not take a look at the following images (dissembled airpcap tx belkin dongle):

http://www.abnir.co.uk/airpcap/1.JPG
http://www.abnir.co.uk/airpcap/2.JPG
http://www.abnir.co.uk/airpcap/3.JPG

any ideas on how it will be possible to mount (solder) an external antenna connector on to it ?...

NOTE: picture 2 - hmm strange solder-drop capacitor replacement (probably the cause of such poor range, this card has - dono maybe i am wrong but it seems like it).

What solder blob? The whole picture looks like a blob! Get a macro lense or post the FCC ID so we can look at internal pictures at the FCC.

If you thought that was aggressive, keep up the attitude.

Most of the voodoo is in the driver. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to manually solder a pigtail on there. If I get adventurous I'll crak open my EX unit and see if the board is similar ( I think it is) and post some photo's

Remove the 0 ohm resistor and solder a u.fl in place. Remove necessary components to de-activate existing antenna. Attach u.fl to SMA pigtail and add lots of glue and snap it back together.

Your first instincts were correct. Now let's see if Beak practices "catch and release" or whether it's "shrimp on the barbie" as our heathen Aussie friends put it.
