Do routers track visited websites?

Configuration and other hardware related information

Thorn wrote:Well Linksys has it for one. And I'm calling bullshit on browsing "around google for a while with no luck." A search of Google with BEFSR81 and log as the search terms shows plenty of links. Checking a few shows an awful lot of information on the logging on most Linksys routers including the BEFSR81.

<spoonfeed mode ON>

If you can't find it at all, it's right on the router's Administration page:

Management Log Diagnostics Factory Defaults Firmware Upgrade

<spoonfeed mode OFF>

I was looking for the terms "Linksys BEFSR81 log visited sites" & "Does the Linksys BEFSR81 log visited sites". I have no administrator access to the router, since I'm staying away from home and I'm on a family members network.

Then it would probably be best as to not go to site you wouldn't be embarrassed to have someone else see.

Meaning, stop surfing for monkey pr0n.

If you're worried the Administrator can see what you're looking at, the short answer is "Yes." Not only does it log the IP, but it resolves it, too.

Need proof? Here's a sample from my Linksys router for the last few minutes:

Ha! 10? I think that's wishful thinking on your part.

Configured to run merely locally, it seems to run about 10,000 lines. (That's based on what I've seen on mine.) However, understand that if it's talking to a syslog server someplace, the capacity may be damned near unlimited. My syslog server can hold about 6 months worth of logs without even breathing heavy.
