Netgear WG511T external antenna

Postby sillywifi » Fri Aug 10, 2007 4:24 am

Just hoping someone could give me a concise description and/or pics of where to solder onto a WG511T card so that an external antenna can be connected.

There have been threads like this already, for example:
http://www.netstumbler.org/showthread.php?t=17040&highlight=WG511T

However there haven't been any real conclusions, and the descriptions are quite vague. I know there are people on here who have done it though.

Before anyone mentions it, as far as I know, the hirose connector isn't u.fl and isn't really an option.

So far you are off to a good start, you did find a relevant thread about your card.

Wish I could be more of assistance, but your Search-Fu appears to be stronger than most the n00bs we get in here.

There may be manufacturer's out there now that sell the pigtails. The original conversation is dated. Read up on the downside (search) to that type of connector (same issues as Hirose).

WG511T...yup, did a bunch of them awhile ago. They work just fine, Atheros chipset. As for the pigtails, I bought an Airlink indoor omni antenna that came with a RP-SMA to RP-TNC adaptor pigtail. Cut off the TNC end and you have a pigtail for the card. A word of caution, your soldering skills should be up snuff on this one. It's not a hard mod, just keep the leads short and do clean solder work. I don't remember if I took some pics of the card after the mod. If I find them, I'll post a link.
