Orinoco Classic Gold (Agere) firmware downgrade help

Postby I26 » Sun Jan 13, 2008 4:20 pm

I have been trying to get my card to downgrade to a different version for about 3 hours now. I am using v8.72 now but would like to use v6.16. I have been finding some posts on here but none seem to work. Everytime I try the flash an error pops-up saying "No wireless card driver found." I can run the 8.72 updater without that error. I connect fine to the net as well. I am looking to flash it to v6.16 for use with a Linux distro and was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction. In the the meantime I will keep scouring the net. Any suggestions on a possible solution? Thanks.

This might help you out a bit.

I've had the same problem with my Dell TM 1150. I think the solution will be to find a third party raw writer/reader that will program the flash in the card, then find a binary image of the firmware you want to use.

(Alchemy comes to mind..)

I have tried the "hacking the old update code" with a hex editor, but I must have missed a step somewhere.

It doesn't seem possible to go back to an earlier flash using the standard Windoz apps due to the driver issues you've mentioned.

I just kind of gave up on it due to time constraints. I might take another swipe at it down the road sometime.

I got it to take v6.06 so the updater says. The orinoco client manager says otherwise. I tried to install Windows 98 on my laptop but even that is giving me grief(Installs, then restarts but will not continue the install as needed.) I will install Windows 98 on my spare laptop and try the flash from it as I read some of the firmwares only will take while using Win98. I'll let you know of my success.

I installed Win98 over the network and the v6.16 updated right away. I can now get back to business.

Hmmm.. I have a few win 98 machines around the shop. I guess I'll go give it a shot when I get some time.
