WAP11 Antenna Selection

Postby LiquidEdge » Thu Jun 03, 2004 5:50 pm

I have a directional antenna connected to the left antenna on my WAP11 and the right antenna is pretty much useless.

Is there any advantage to changing the WAP11 config so that it only outputs on the left antenna? Or is keeping it as diversity the only way to go?

Thanks in advance.

I think for diversity to work properly both antennae have to be the same... You may as well select just the one. Make sure that the left antenna is the TX/RX antenna.

Do you know if it provides more power to the antenna that you turn on?

In diversity mode one ant. is TX/RX the other is RX only. I doubt that selecting just 1 will provide any more power. I found this info with google. I know it is for the WRT54G but I'm certain the WAP11 functions the same as far as diversity is concerned (NOTE: I don't think all of the linksys products use the same antenna for transmit).

WRT54G is a single radio with "Diversity antenna configuration". Though it has two antennas, it uses only the right side for transmit. And the two for receive - but not additive - the electronics select which one has better signal.

You cannot simply use directional antennas each pointing to your target area because the left one does not transmit.
