wifi antenna booster for alcoholics :)

Postby crysis » Sat Oct 01, 2011 1:01 pm

Hi All,
I just wanted to give also my contribution to this nice forum.. proudly announcing my first antenna booster for alcoholics! :)
Yes, it is made of 3 used objects only, costed nothing!
- empty can of beer 0.5 l
- light sticky tape or old adhesives
- cardboard from the trash

In fact, if you are another alcoholic like me.. :P you have a lot of empty cans around your room, so its easy.. well, because you could wreck few of them before making the right one.. but if you are drunk, its not a problem.. ;)
Netstumbler in my case reported, I passed from signal=-65 to -59, gain=6 point.. the difference between being able to post this topic and not.. :))
If you are interested, just let me know, Ill send you the picture! :))
Cheerio! :))

They must be some big ass beer cans. Pretty sure the diameter of the can is important for the frequency of the radio.

hey Starpoint! you said 13 points??? wtf! can you please post a picture of that wander? thanks! :D well, I have still many of these cans here around.. before they were just a pain in the ass.. now I look at them so nicely.. :D hey! in the meantime I improved it.. so with the beercantenna mounted on wifi antenna, I also seat all on a beans can (..washed of course.. ;) and like that I gained 2 points more! :D Also, another big curiosity, I have been experiencing already with many 0.5 l cans from many beer labels (.. yes beer is good.. ;) and I discovered that I get better gain with the most expensive beer cans! :D I dont know.. touching these cans I feel the aluminum kind of stronger, ticker maybe.. what do you think?
But listen... it raised a new problem.. when I mount my cantenna between 8am and 19pm, the Netstumbler reports a loooot of noise glitches.. and It becomes very difficult to receive, even if the signal=-55.. the only solution, I dismount the cantenna, and Netstumbler returns to normal, all green, no glitches.. but with signal=-65.. :( .. instead, this strange phenomenon is rare in the night, when my cantenna works almost without any glitches at -55! any ideas?
Here in attach the photo of my cantenna!

sure sure.. will have to dig em out of my closet and photo.. but they are made out of coffee cans.. beer cans are too wimpy... a pringles can (the original cantenna) works good too.

google is your friend.

Here is my cantenna (most of you have seen it)

http://spirit.freeshell.org/redmonster.jpg

http://spirit.freeshell.org/connector.jpg

http://spirit.freeshell.org/element.jpg

cost total is around 20 bucks. Connector was about 5 at a local electronic store. Coffee can was around 5-8 bucks Stove pipe adapter was about 5-7 bucks... You will need to find the spreadsheet out on the net that tells you where to place the element in front of the back depending on the can diameter. (google is your friend)

beercantenna no cost? you bought the element to go inside, you bought the beer... there is a cost

easiest way to post a photo is put it on a personal website then post the link to it here
