Questions about the operation or expectations of the NetStumbler software

Help...Orincoco

Postby Miner88 » Sat May 10, 2003 3:07 pm

I have an Orinoco mini pci Gold Card on my Gateway Laptop. It worked very well under XP Pro but I switched the OS to Dual Boot Windows 2000 sp3 and Windows 98 SE.

I updated the card to the latest firmware, drivers and client manager and it works fine under Windows 98 BUT it doesn't work under Windows 2000. Client manager picks up the signal but Netstumbler doesn't pick up anything and I can't get explorer to auto find connection.

Gateway support says the problem is sp3 and that I should go back to sp2 to get it to work because sp3 has some sort of WPA issue (security?).

In this day and age I can't believe this is the answer.

Thanks for any help.

I run NS on WIn2k SP3 and SP4 Beta..

Make sure that in the client manager you set the SSID to "ANY"

As for the WPA stuff. I think Gateway don't know what their
talk'in bout.. cause as for as I know & have seen there is no
WPA "Windows Product Activation" or "Wireless Protection A??"

This is only on XP

Like Madhatter said.. use "ANY" (or blank) SSID

Also if using 0.3.30, don't allow NetStumbler to "auto reconfigure" the card, it breaks everything. See http://www.stumbler.net/index.php?m=200305#38 for more info.

That's why I said... I've also disabled Windows' auto-detection.

Also, I've also tried having them "blank" and "any" =/
