How to Get IP of Access-point by using the Mac

Postby H3xt3R » Thu Nov 20, 2003 7:42 am

My question is I am running network stumbler on a network and I get the mac address of the access-point but obviously I don't have the ip address. In order to retrieve the ip I will need to utilize RARP. I am using windows xp is there a tool or utility thats available. Where I could be able to enter in the mac address of the AP and it would send a rarp request and report back to me the ip address of the access point.

Cheers,

I can think of two ways to get the IP of an AP.

First, use something like Kizmet or Airopeek which will do Promiscuous mode sniffing. "Grab it out of the air" without actually connection to the AP.

The second method would be to connect to the AP and get it that way. That, however, will be illegal unless you have authorization to access the AP. Of course, if you have authorization to access it, you probably know all you need to know about the AP already. :D

And if you do have Access to the Wired side of the net, and you
are running "Real Routers" aka:Cisco...

Then you can telnet into the router and do a good'ol
SH IP CAM DYNAMIC, and look for the MAC Address...
SH IP ARP might also help...
Legends may sleep, but they never die!!!!
