peer2peer, whats going on, 100eds of macs?

Postby Snigel » Fri Aug 22, 2003 2:58 pm

I started up a peer to peer connection between me and my friends compaq armada m700, both with orinoco silver cards.

I started up netstumbler and found his connection. But he was changing mac like every second or two, we left the computers for a while and when we came back my netstumbler had found over 170 different mac adresses from him. Why?

This is a known issue with some cards on an ad-hoc network. Many who have observed this happen see an incremental increase on the last digits of the MAC.

AFAIK, if Marius knows why this occurs, he hasn't said.
