whats a Hermes Chipset and Prism Chipset?

in the FAQ it says D link prism chipsets do not work with netstumbler

i have the 650+ and win XP and so far the thing has worked pretty well without any problems with netstumbler

so whats the difference with Hermes and Prism chipsets

i'm a newbie at this stuff :P

Hermes and Prism refer to the chipsets that the wireless card is based on.

Netstumber works best with cards based on the Hermes chipset, because that is what the program was written with.

Working with Prism chips was an addition brought on by WinXP and NS release 0.3.3. It doesn't work well, it doesn't work all of the time, and it doesn't work for everyone.

Just for reference, it's in the FAQ. A little searching never hurt anyone...
