Wi-Fi term

Postby columbo » Tue Oct 04, 2005 10:50 pm

We are about to launch a few HotSpots in my city under our brand.
My question is, can we use "My Brand - Wi-Fi Internet" terms in brochures / posters / online, etc.?

You should really contact a trade mark laywer for those kind of questions.
But IMHO you can't, as "Wi-Fi" is a registered trademark :
Wi-Fi®, Wi-Fi Alliance®. the Wi-Fi logo, and the Wi-Fi ZONE logo are registered trademarks of the Wi-Fi Alliance]www.wi-fi.com[/url]

I assume, there are quite a few members on this forum running and managing hotspots. How do you do it? You do not use the term Wi-Fi? Or if you use it, you ask for permission?
For example, in my country both wi-fi.mycountryextension and wifi.mycountryextension domain names are registered by a big mobile phone company. Do you think they have permission from Wi-Fi alliance to use the term?

What about all the sites that use and mention the term Wi-Fi?

Did you follow the link to the WiFi Alliance that Dutch provided? The answers are there, although you may need an attorney/solicitor to decipher them.
