Bluetooth ideas?

Postby sizofiber » Wed Sep 01, 2004 1:23 pm

For my next cell I've been thinking of getting something with bluetooth so I can link it up with my mac. (BTW, anyone see the new iMac...whoa) I've heard of people being able to control their mac with their phone. Is this true? What kind of apps are there like that?

Next question, what's a good bluetooth phone? Any recommendations? I've been looking @ the motorola a630 (http://www.hellomoto.com/us/a630) because of the built-in keyboard and cam. Anyone have it already?

Thanks.

Bluetooth Phone with the Mac

Postby promethh » Wed Sep 01, 2004 3:51 pm

I'm using the Motorola V600 and Pharos Bluetooth GPS with my Mac. Since I have the internet connection shared via bluetooth from the V600 to the Mac, I can post my lat/long and map to the web in realtime. The result was: http://foremank.mystarband.net/WhereIsKen.html

I keep a mobile blog (moblog) from my PowerBook, Sony Clie, Pharos GPS, and V600 at http://foremank.mystarband.net/vkblog.html

On the whole, the V600 is a good phone. Kinda a pain to configure, but allows file sharing (jpgs, mp3s), a good cameraphone (640x480), and a very good data phone when used on the Cingular EDGE network. After finding out about the Bluetooth Serial Utility (duh) in OSX, configuring the Pharos Bluetooth GPS for use with the Mac was a breeze.

I have a Sony Ericsson T610, no Mac, but I can control my notebook with it via this nifty program:

Definitely establishes you as the alpha geek when you control your powerpoint presentation from a cell phone.

For mac users there's romeo

Salling Clicker

You might also be interested in Salling Software's Clicker:

It allows for remote control of devices from Sony Ericsson, Palm, and Mac. I've controlled my iTunes using my Sony Clie. While the remote mouse is cool, having VNC on my Clie makes for a much better "wow" than the remote mouse. :)
