Newbie Q: Recommendations for wireless card w/Kismac?

sourceforge? And if not, what should I use to get this card working correctly?

It works like a champ but you have to install the Prism GT driver patch available from the Kismac website.

Thank you for telling me this, I probably would have missed it and then ended up angry that I got the card...

EDIT: WAIT WAIT WAIT... This card does not run the Prism GT chipset, why would I install that for a card that doesn't even use it? Am I just ignorant or is there something wrong here? Were both talking about the same card right? (http://www.netgate.com/product_info.php?products_id=43)

PSS. I did have the model number wrong... sorry if I confused.

It definitely works, but you have to patch the driver. You are correct about it not using the GT chipset so perhaps it was a different driver patch that I used...it's been a while.

I will check on this a bit more when I get home today and get back to you, but the short version is that yes, this card works like a champ with some slight configuration.

okay, thanks for the help.

It is either going to be that card or a nice Mod'ed Classic Orinoco card... I have never used a MMCX connector before, so my question is, are they better then the MC connectors as in durability?

I haven't noticed any difference in durability. They pretty much all suck. Buy the 10 pack :)

Ok, I popped in my Senao and fired up KisMac when I got home and it uses the built in Prism2 driver that 'ships' with KisMac. Perhaps it was on older version that required driver patching. Can't remember for sure. Anyway, the answer is that it does work.

Hope that helps.

thanks, it is good to know that if I deicide on that card it will work out of the box. Do you know what wireless driver you would use for the system and if it supports WEP. I say this becuase on wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net they say that it is an 'unconfirmed no' on the WEP ability for that card.

Thanks for the help

DWL-122 Kismac Not working

Postby kodachrome64 » Tue Jul 12, 2005 6:08 am

jwright9 wrote:I hooked up dwl-122 to my 12" PB. No problems! Works with Tiger, works with KisMAC ... Google for updated driver (I don't remember where I found it, but it wasn't difficult.

For more fun ... goto http://www.usbwifi.orcon.net.nz/ ... I have actually built and tested the wok-dipper. It raised signal level ... ahem! within legal limits! I also began pulling in 3 additional netwoks without moving my computer.

The dwl-122 begins to open up a lot of interesting possiblities as an antenna.

Based on the success of others using DWL-122 and Kismac I went ahead and got one. NO SUCESS HERE! Kismac seems to recognise it as a USB prism2 card but then freezes up w/ a spinning ball. THe only way to un free up Kismac is to unplug the card or mulitiple force quits. When I pull out the card I get (USB Prism2 error) Can anyone speculate as to what the problem is? Could I have the wrong hardware version?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Look up in the address field of your webbrowser. Does it say Netstumbler, or Kismac there ?
Read THIS first, then go HERE with your request for help on Kismac.
