Wi-fi Troubles

Postby audiboy90 » Fri May 14, 2004 2:55 pm

I am running OS 10.3.3 and an airport card. I just bought a linksys broadband 802.11b router model BEFW11S4. After logging onto the linksys page that gives me my four WEP numbers and attempting to enter any of them, none work. What am I doing wrong or am I fogetting to change a certain configuration?

Three things:
1) Manually create hexadecimal encryption string keys. Passphrase generators from different manufacturers use different algorithms. This means that the resulting keys are different. See this thread:
http://forums.netstumbler.com/showthread.php?t=647

2) Apples use to have an issue with WEP keys (although I thought this was fixed.) Keys entered into the Airport control panel needed a $ sign at the beginning of the string to signify a hexadecimal number.

3)Set the BEFW11S4 to "Open" authenication. It is more secure, and the Shared option can sometimes cause problems between different manufacturers.

Hey, no problem. Just send small, unmarked bills. ;)

Seriously, let us know what works. (I'm betting on #1, the Passphrase issue.)

Actually it was the dollar sign. Just put that before my WEP and I am on.
